Basement Hopper Windows FAQs
My Covington basement window is set into stone, not a standard frame. Can you still fit a hopper?
Yes. A lot of the older homes here have windows mortared straight into limestone or brick foundation walls, and we build each hopper to fit that specific opening. We measure the rough dimensions on site, then bring back a custom sash that seals against the masonry with weatherstrip and a multi-point lock.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
