Our Dry Run house is built into the hill and the basement window is mostly below grade. Does a hopper still work there?
It's the right style for exactly that. A hopper tilts inward from the bottom, so it opens into the basement rather than needing outside clearance you don't have below grade. We fit it to your block opening and seal it against the ground water that comes with a hillside foundation.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
