My Edgewood basement window is painted shut and foggy — is it worth replacing just one?
It's worth it if that unit is drafting or fogged, since a single failed hopper can pull a surprising amount of cold air into the basement. We're happy to replace one or do the whole basement at once. Either way we measure the exact opening so the new unit seals cleanly.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
