The steel hoppers in my 1950s Lakeside Park basement are rusted shut — can they be replaced without tearing out block?
Yes. We fit the new hopper into the existing masonry opening, so there's no block removal in a standard swap. We pull the corroded steel frame, set the custom vinyl unit, and seal it to the wall in a single visit for most basement windows.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
