The basement windows on our older Lincoln Heights home are odd sizes. Can you still fit new ones?
Yes. On older homes the openings rarely match anything off the shelf, which is why we measure each one and build the hopper to that size. It fits the block opening you have, so you keep the glass area and lose the gaps the old odd-sized unit left behind.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
