Basement Hopper Windows in Newport
If your Newport basement smells damp every spring, the window down there is usually the reason. We swap tired steel and wood basement units for bottom-hinged hopper windows that tilt in to vent the stale air and lock down tight against the river-valley moisture. Call (513) 657-2471.

Newport
Basement Hopper Windows for Newport homes
Newport's East Row and the streets around Monmouth are full of homes from the 1890s through the 1920s, and 41071 sits low against the Ohio and Licking rivers. Basements here take on humidity, and the small block openings usually still hold their original steel windows that have rusted and stopped sealing. Once those corrode, damp air and the occasional trickle of ground water come straight through, and the whole lower level starts to smell.
A basement hopper window fixes both problems at once. It tilts inward from a bottom hinge so you can flush the damp air out on a dry day and clean the glass without going outside, then it locks flush with a multi-point catch and weatherstrip that keeps water and bugs out. We build the frame from fusion-welded, multi-chamber vinyl that shrugs off the moisture in a Newport foundation wall, and the triple-pane Low-E glass keeps the basement warmer through a Kentucky winter.
Basement Windows
Built Tough for Below Grade
A hopper is essentially an awning flipped upside down — it hinges at the bottom and opens inward from the top. That makes it ideal for basements, where it vents moist air, cleans easily from inside, and seals tight against drafts and pests.
Want the bigger picture? Pair it with replacement windows or a new entry door, and ask about rolling it into one 0%-for-24-months project. For efficiency ratings, the Energy Star program is a good reference.

Common questions
Basement Hopper Windows FAQs
Newport gets river humidity. Will a vinyl hopper hold up better than the steel one I have now?
It will. The old steel units rust from the inside out in a damp basement, especially this close to the rivers. Our hopper frames are fusion-welded vinyl with multiple chambers, so they won't rust or rot, and the weatherstrip seal keeps the ground moisture on the outside where it belongs.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
