Taylor Mill sits up on the ridge in southern Kenton County, and a lot of the 41015 homes here were built into sloped, hillside lots from the 1960s through the 80s. That grade pushes water toward the foundation, and the short below-grade basement windows take the brunt of it. Old steel hoppers on these homes corrode at the hinge and sill, then start letting in drafts and moisture.
We build the new hopper to the exact short block opening, and the multi-point lock draws the weatherstrip tight against the ground water a sloped lot drives at the wall. The fusion-welded vinyl frame is made for a damp basement, so it won't rust or rot like the steel unit coming out. When the basement gets humid, the bottom-hinged sash tilts inward to vent it and cleans easily from the inside.

My Taylor Mill house is on a slope and water sits against the basement wall — can a hopper handle that?
A properly sealed hopper handles the moisture load a sloped lot puts on the wall. The weatherstrip and multi-point lock keep ground water and drafts out, and the vinyl frame won't corrode against a damp wall. For real standing water you'll also want grading or a well addressed, and we'll point that out when we measure.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
