The East End (ZIP 45226) is a narrow riverfront neighborhood east of downtown along Eastern Avenue, with historic river cottages and newer condos squeezed between the hillside and the Ohio. The older cottages were built with wood double-hung windows that catch the water view, and after decades the sashes stick, the glass fogs, and cold river air slips past the single pane through gaps in the frame.
Our double-hungs are triple-pane Low-E with argon fill in a fusion-welded, multi-chamber vinyl frame, and both sashes tilt in so a river-facing window cleans from inside rather than leaning out over the water. Open the top sash to catch a high breeze off the river or the bottom for a low one. Low-E glass cuts the draft off the water and holds heat these exposed cottages lose fast, constant-force balances give a smooth one-hand lift, and the vinyl won't rot in the riverfront damp. How do I keep the river view without the draft in my East End cottage?
New double-hungs with triple-pane Low-E argon glass give you the full view and a tight seal at the same time. The old single-pane sashes leaked air off the water; the fusion-welded vinyl frame and fresh weatherstripping keep that draft out, and both sashes tilt in so you clean the river glass from inside.
Are double-hung windows energy efficient?
